Victoria CRD (Capital Regional District) has the best resource for ‘where to recycle’ at myRecyclopedia with how to recycle cassette tapes (does anyone know what those are anymore?) to how to recycle your dishwasher.
Fantastic toys made from corrugated recycled carboard now made here in Canada…from Paperpod.ca
Originally invented by a British artist and social entrepreneur, these upcycled toys and furniture are now available in North America. As the designers claim, these really are a “blank canvas” for children to express their creativity with crayon and paint. The structures are amazingly sturdy and flat pack for storage. They make great christmas presents – they were the best seller in the months before xmas on our UK website/shop.

LetsRecycle reports that the cost of exporting UK recyclates to Asia has increased due to increased shipping container charges. The West’s dependence on Third World imports of our waste material is destructive on so many levels. Canada needs to adopt Zero Waste, which is about making recycling profitable, providing jobs and opportunities here…instead of dumping ‘over there’.
recycle2shop.com encourages Canadian artists, craftspeople and entrepreneurs (social and other) to use recyclates (waste material) to make new products…known as ‘upcycling’ . This closes the recycling loop – keeping our waste in Canada, as well as the profits made from waste upcycling.
Leona makes boxes for jewellery (selling at craft fair stalls and markets ) out of old calendars. The paper is heavy and glossy and easy to manipulate. They are origami boxes and she had no clue how to do it so off she went to Etsy and YouTube and here is the video.
Our circuit board christmas tree ornaments are selling like hotcakes on our ebay store Uniquely Eco. They make great eco friendly wedding gifts and favors.
Now if we could sell a bazillion of these little guys that would recycle tons of old circuit board.
We also sell ornaments made from recycled tetra paks (juice cartons to the rest of us). The latest from the UK is that recycled tetrapaks have to go to the main plant in Sweden to be recycled which means transport energy being used. There used to be a plant in Scotland but that proved not to be cost effective. TetraPak recycling in Canada does not seem to be as problematic, as we have paper mills already in operation due to our huge forestry industry so the structure is already in place to process recycled juice cartons.
